Training in Reproductive Health for teachers and community leaders in Masaka

RHEDY - Naguru Orientation in Masaka

In February 2010 Ka Tutandike Uganda, had two separate trainings teachers from three primary schools for the Deaf and community leaders to orient them in issues around Reproductive Health Education. The training was carried out by Ka Tutandike's partner Naguru Teenage Information and Health Centre. The three day trainings were designed to introduce issues of Reproductive Health to the participants. What do we mean when we say Reproductive Health? Are we talking about puberty and growing up? Are we talking about relationships, reproduction and sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS? Partners from the Uganda National Association of the Deaf and Kyambogo University also participated. The teachers of Deaf children and community leaders will each receive a further 5 days of training in July 2010 to help them take some of these key messages to the Deaf youth both those in school and out of school. Participants have received very little training on these issues in the past therefore both groups showed great enthusiasm and support for the Project.
