KA TUANDIKE UGANDA JOINS ALL WOMEN IN CELEBRATING 2014 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON 8 MARCH

We celebrate women the world over in marking the great achievements they have contributed towards sustainable peace and development.

The United Nations declares an annual theme for women’s day celebrations and the International Women’s Day 2014 Theme is: Equality for women is progress for all.”

"The theme highlights the importance of achieving equality for women and girls not simply because it is a matter of fairness and fundamental human rights, but because progress in so many other areas depends on it.” Ban Ki-moon – UN Secretary General.

In Uganda, the Women’s day celebrations will be held in Kumi District with the theme, “Partnership of men and boys for empowerment of women and girls in Uganda”. Uganda’s theme is unique because it brings men on board to empowering women matters. As KTU celebrates with Uganda and the world at large, we emphasize the critical importance to empower women economically through Social Enterprise. We at KTU believe that “poverty” is not just about money. Our work on the ground has proved that what keeps poor people from realizing their full potential is lack of choice and opportunity. In order to ensure that women have a meaningful and sustainable social and economic change, the need for economic empowerment is vital. We know for a fact that when women are supported and empowered economically, all of society benefits, their families are healthier, more children go to school, agriculture productivity improves and they have greater access to opportunities. In short, communities become more resilient and self-sustaining.

The work we do at KTU is primarily aimed at placing women and children at the centre of our initiatives. We are extremely heartened and proud to see the positive difference our activities on the ground have made/continues to make on the lives of vulnerable women and children– especially via the social enterprise on honey production. The stories are of hope and promise of a better future. We realize that now more than ever, much more needs to be done. Please support our work and let us work together to celebrate every day, as a ‘Women’s Day’!
