KTU WINS 2013 ‘INSPIRATIONAL’ PROJECT AWARD!

KTU was one of the 10 finalists selected from 570 submissions from 62 countries that were invited to present at the 2013 Project Inspire: 5 Minutes to Change the World Awards. Project Inspire is a joint initiative by the Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard, to inspire young change makers and help them create a better world of opportunities for women and girls in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. KTU was represented by Susan Asio, the Programme Coordinator. We were nominated for our “Establishing Sustainable Bee Keeping Projects for Young Women with Disabilities” project, which won a 10,000 USD Award for “Best Inspirational Project.

With the $10,000 award, we will empower at least 100 disabled women in Luwero and Masaka through sustainable bee keeping projects to increase their incomes and improve their wellbeing.

Besides the award, KTU participated in the Project Inspire exhibition, where we showcased different categories of innovative products by KTU beneficiaries. They included; honey, peanut butter, beads, crafts and KTU branded coffee mugs. The highlight of the entire Project Inspire Finals, were the networks that KTU’s Social Enterprise and ECD programmes attracted. We received numerous contacts for possible future partnerships.

We therefore take this opportunity to thank UNWOMEN Singapore and MasterCard for organizing such an excellent event and for their generosity and compassion to empowering women and girls in vulnerable communities around the world.

We are also grateful to our many supporters out there who took the time off to vote KTU’s video for the People’s Choice Award. We thank you!
